The Stronger Families for California Act
Assembly Bill 1511, Authored by Assemblymember Mark Leno
|
AGREE
|
We support the bill.
HOPE supports AB 1511 because it establishes a prevention-based, culturally-competent public education campaign promoting well-informed decision making about sexual health, which will effectively reduce teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. Latinas have the highest rates of teen pregnancy in California and the nation at large. This legislation will serve to curb the startling statistics by increasing awareness between families, children, and individuals about sexual and reproductive health.

Voter Registration
Assembly Bill 1819, Authored by Assemblymember Curren Price
|
AGREE
|
We support the bill.
HOPE supports AB 1819 because of the growing Latino youth population and the high percentage of Latinos who are eligible unregistered voters. HOPE believes that by making voter registration more accessible to the growing number of Latino youth, more Latinas will be proactive in registering to vote. Given the importance of voting in shaping public policy and leadership decision-making, HOPE believes that in order for Latinas to maximize their advocacy and leadership potential, they must utilize their right to vote.

Community Healthcare Clinics
Assembly Bill 2010, Authored by Mark Desaulnier
|
AGREE
|
We support the bill.
HOPE supports AB 2010 because it would eliminate unnecessary licensure requirements for affiliate health clinics in order to provide increased access to healthcare services to Latinas. Many uninsured Latinas rely heavily on California’s existing “safety net” healthcare structure. In fact, more than half of all those served by community clinics and health centers and mobile clinics, are Latino patients. This legislation will help streamline the licensing process by eliminating unnecessary and burdensome requirements for affiliate health clinics. By eliminating this requirement, the healthcare needs of Latina communities will be more efficiently served. |

California DREAM Act
Assembly Bill 2083, Authored by Assemblymember Fabian Nunez
|
AGREE
|
We support the bill.
HOPE supports AB 2083, the California Dream Act because it would ensure eligibility for state financial aid to Latina immigrant students who are in the process of applying for legal residency. Latinas are a significant demographic in California public universities, representing close to 60,000 students state-wide. Many Latina students site financial hardship as a main obstacle to completing their college education. This legislation would have a significant impact on Latina enrollment and retention rates in California public universities and would benefit all Californians by developing a more educated and skilled workforce to compete in California’s global economy. |
